Benefits From My Donations

Ten benefits to giving through WSU to a Master Gardener Development fund.

All donations are tax deductible
Donors receive recognition from WSU
Donations enhance WSU's awareness of WSU Master Gardeners volunteers and Master Gardener non-profits across the state
Donations expand the influence of WSU Master Gardener volunteers, and the entire WSU Master Gardener Program, both within WSU and to the statewide public
WSU Master Gardener Development Funds are particularly well suited for complex donations that require attorneys, monitoring and a long-term commitment
1. This may include Real Estate, a pledge that you fulfill over time, a planned gift such as a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust, a beneficiary designation, or a bequest
2. You can donate your residence or other property while retaining lifetime use through a Retain Life Estate option
3. WSU handles the complex attorney and filing requirement
4. WSU has a Gift Planning division to help donor select options that meet their needs and wishes
Donations over $25,000 can be placed in Endowments.
1. Your endowment benefits a WSU priority of your choice
2. All endowed funds are established by a written gift use agreement between the donors and Washington State University
3. Your gift is invested prudently, in accordance with University policies, so that over time the endowment's buying power is preserved
4. Each year, a percentage (4%) of your endowment's market value is used to benefit the area you designate in your gift use agreement. Gains over that 4% are returned to further grow the endowment
5. Your endowment will be used for the purpose that you designate, consistent with University policies;
6. WSU charges a 1% management fee
All donations over $1,000 qualify the donor for honors as a President's Associate
WSU provides access to estate planning information and planners
Short-term donations (amounts under $25,000) to county Master Gardener Development Funds can be quickly used by WSU Extension county Chairs to promote local Master Gardener programs.
1. While these accounts do not earn interest, the donations are cumulative and each count as a donation to WSU.
2. These accounts are an excellent means of promoting the WSU Master Gardener Program statewide while providing for the needs of local Master Gardener programs
Donations toward program support given to other foundations or as in-kind gifts without proper documentation, while appreciated, cannot be recognized by WSU in accordance with IRS guidelines
1. Master Gardener non-profits are encouraged to make donations at the President's Associates level or above so the incredible value of their continued support for WSU can be properly documented, clearly seen and appropriately recognized.
  b. In the big scheme of things, money yields influence, which yields better support for Master Gardener programs statewide.
