The 2025 Extension Master Gardener Impact Story
Every year, WSU Extension Master Gardener volunteers help Washington communities grow stronger, healthier, and more resilient — and the 2025 Impact Report shows just how far reaching that work has become. With more than 127,000 residents served statewide, volunteers are delivering research-based gardening education that protects natural resources, strengthens local food systems, and supports community well-being.
The report highlights how Master Gardeners turn science into action across nine statewide program priorities — from climate resilience and water conservation to pollinator health, soil stewardship, and wildfire preparedness. These priorities guide local programming and ensure that every workshop, plant clinic, demonstration garden, and community partnership contributes to a healthier Washington.
A Statewide Network Making a Local Difference
Master Gardeners work in nearly every county in Washington, tailoring their outreach to local needs while staying grounded in university‑backed science. In 2025, volunteers:
- Helped residents adapt to climate change through resilient gardening practices
- Taught families how to grow and access local, nutritious food
- Supported pollinator health through habitat education and community partnerships
- Promoted clean water and reduced pollution from home landscapes
- Strengthened soil health through composting, mulching, and sustainable gardening
- Connected people with nearby nature, improving mental and physical well‑being
- Helped communities prepare for wildfire risks in home landscapes
- Protected plant biodiversity through education and stewardship
These efforts reflect a shared mission: empowering Washingtonians to make informed, sustainable choices that benefit both their gardens and their communities.
